Golkonda Fort

Golkonda Fort is a majestic fort located in Telangana, India. It was the former capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty that ruled over the Deccan region for almost two centuries. The defence was a major source of the diamond trade in the 16th and 17th centuries, and the world’s most valuable diamonds, including the Koh-i-Noor, Hope and Regent, were mined here. The fort stands as a reminder of the grandeur of the Qutb Shahi dynasty and has been declared a heritage site by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Golkonda Fort is located 11 km away from Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. It is spread across a radius of 11 km and is surrounded by a 10 km long wall. The fort has four defences within its borders, each with its entrance gate. The outermost defence has three concentric walls and is known as the Fateh Darwaza or the Victory Gate, the main entrance to the fort. The fort has numerous palaces, mosques, temples and other monuments.

The fort also has an impressive sound and light show at night. This audio-visual experience takes visitors on a journey through the history and architecture of the defence. The show is held every evening and is one of the most popular attractions at the fort.
