Ibrahim Rauza
Ibrahim Rauza is an iconic mausoleum located in Bijapur, Karnataka, India. It was built in the early 17th century, during the reign of Adil Shah II of the Adil Shahi dynasty. The Rauza is a stunning example of Islamic architecture and is considered one of the region's most elegant structures.
The Ibrahim Rauza comprises two structures – the tomb of Ibrahim Adil Shah II and the tomb of his queen, Taj Sultana. The two structures are on opposite sides of a beautiful garden, surrounded by a high wall. The park is adorned with fountains, water channels, and numerous trees and plants, making it serene.
The main tomb is located on the western side of the garden and is the larger of the two structures. It is a magnificent building made of black basalt and decorated with intricate carvings and calligraphy. The tomb has a rectangular plan with a dome at the centre, supported by four minarets. The crown is adorned with beautiful blue tiles, and the minarets are decorated with carved geometric patterns.
The tomb of Taj Sultana is located on the eastern side of the garden and is smaller in size compared to the main vault. It is also made of black basalt and decorated with intricate carvings and calligraphy. The tomb has a square plan with a dome at the centre, supported by four minarets.
Both tombs are decorated with stunningly intricate geometric patterns and calligraphy, considered some of India's finest examples of Islamic art.
