Shongtong Bridge is a suspension bridge in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is 9,000 feet above sea level and is one of the highest bridges in Asia. The bridge spans the Satluj River and connects the villages of Shongtong and Chuling.
The bridge's construction was initiated in 2001 by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) and was completed in 2005. The bridge is 315 meters long and is supported by two main cables anchored on either side of the gorge. The bridge deck is made of steel and is 2.5 meters wide.
The Shongtong Bridge provides a vital transport link for the local communities living in the area and also serves as a popular tourist attraction. The bridge offers stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan mountain ranges and the Satluj River below, making it a popular spot for photography enthusiasts.
The bridge is located on National Highway 5 and is easily accessible by road. However, due to its height and location, the bridge can be subject to high winds and extreme weather conditions, making it sometimes unsafe to cross.
