Church of St. John of God is an old Portuguese structure dedicated to Our Lady of Good Success built in 1685. The building in North Goa next to the St. Augustine Tower is very ordinary and depicts traditional Portuguese architectural designs. The building is thought to have been built in 1685 by eight Brothers from the St. John of God Congregation. The Portuguese King Dom Pedro II dispatched them to Goa to care for the sick in the hospital. The convent was purchased by the nuns of St. Monica in 1844 to be used as a residence for their chaplains and other staff, and thus the convent lost its significance. In 1850, the Church's roof was removed. Finally 1961, the Portuguese Military Force repaired and restored the convent. It was later taken over by the Sisters of the Congregation of the Portuguese Franciscan Hospitallers in 1964. The sisters run the Church, the convent, and an Old Age Home.
