Mae De Deus Church History

Mae De Deus Church Architecture
The Church of Mae De Deus is Goa's best example of Neo-Gothic architecture. Its spires, each with a cross atop it, are among its distinguishing features. Another statue of Mother God is kept in the church's courtyard, but this one is made of black stone.
The church is said to be made of stones excavated from three different locations. The black rocks came from the ruins of the Mae de Deus convent in Daujim, and the second batch came from the Chapel of Our Lady of Victory.
Massive buttresses support the church's walls. The church's main door is almost a full story high and domed in shape. A niche in the façade above the portal houses a statue of Our Lady.
