Ita Fort is an ancient fortification located in the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar. It is one of the most significant historical landmarks in the state and is believed to date back to the 14th-15th century AD. The fort is said to have been built by the kings of the Chutiya dynasty, who ruled the region from the 12th to the 16th century.
The name Ita Fort means "Fort of Bricks" in the local language, and it is a massive structure made of bricks and stone. The fort is unique in its design and construction, with three entrances and a circular shape. The circular shape represents the universe, and the three entrances represent the three gods of the Chutiya dynasty.
The fort covers an area of approximately 45,000 square meters and consists of three main parts: the central courtyard, the eastern wing, and the western branch. The central courtyard is the largest part of the fort, surrounded by high walls over 5 meters thick. The eastern and western wings are smaller and connected to the central courtyard by narrow passageways.
The fort's walls are adorned with intricate carvings, including geometric patterns, floral designs, and human figures. The carvings are said to be some of the finest examples of medieval architecture in the region.
