Prakasam Barrage

Prakasam Barrage is an irrigation facility located in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is a major part of the Krishna River system, providing drinking and irrigation water to the surrounding areas. The barrage was built across the Krishna River in 1958 and is named after the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Tanguturi Prakasam.

The Prakasam Barrage is a gravity masonry structure with a length of 1,849 metres (6,066 ft) and a maximum width of 25 metres (82 ft). It has 45 radial crest gates and is supported by 23 piers. Each gate is 12 metres (39 ft) wide and 7.5 metres (25 ft) high. The barrage has a capacity of 8.66 TMC of water and is used for irrigation, flood control, and power generation.
