Chandavaram Excavation Site

Chandavaram is an important archaeological site located in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The place was first excavated in 2006 and is believed to have been occupied by the Buddhist community between the 3rd century BCE and the 2nd century CE.

The most significant finding at the site is a rock-cut Buddhist monastery complex consisting of a chaitya hall, a vihar and several stupas. The chaitya hall is considered one of the finest examples of rock-cut architecture in South India.
