Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the group of 325 small islands that belong to India as Union Territory.  Its tropical weather conditions allow dense and vast growth of Mangrove creek. Approximately 13% of the entire Indian Mangroves grow on Andaman And Nicobar Island, the majority growing on Baratang Island. 

What is Mangroves?

Mangroves are the small plants or bushes which grow in the saline water around the coast. They are really helpful in protecting shores from Hurricane winds, waves, floods and preventing erosion by sustaining sediments with their roots while maintaining water quality.

Mangrove Creek in Andaman and Nicobar Island is very dense, especially in Baratang Island which makes it a habitat for many migrating birds. One can see corals and many colorful fishes living in Mangrove creek. 

Ways to reach mangrove creek in Andaman

One must reach by Air or by Boat to Port Blair and from there they can hire a private cab or cab to Baratang Islands. Via road one can hire a cab and take Andaman Trunk Road to travel up to Middle Strait Jetty and from there they have to take a boat to reach Mangrove creek in Andaman and Nicobar Island. 

Tips for visitors to the Mangrove Creek 

First comes first. It is water and with some dangerous species of sea reptiles like crocodiles, snakes. Do not put your hand in the water, you may get pulled in by crocodiles or bite by snakes.  Second, while in the boat trying not to make any abrupt movements as these boats can lose their balance and you may fall in the water. Since there is only one way to go back and forth to limestone caves, there are lots of chances that another boat may hit your boat. Try to maintain your balance and do not keep your hands on the edges of the boat as other boats might hurt you.  It is always best to listen to the experts. And local guides, as well as boat drivers, know better, do as they say.  Visiting Mangrove Creek is an eccentric and appealing experience. And to experience, the best time is to visit from December to May. Visiting during Monsoons is not advisable at all.
