Galgibag Beach In Goa

Galgibag beach or as it is also called Galgibagh Beach is located in the south of Goa in Canacona region (Canacona Taluk), 7 km from famous Palolem Beach resort. Galgibag beach is one of Goa’s most scenic hidden gems of Goa. Along with its unspoiled natural charm, the Galgibag beach is also one of the three beaches in Goa, which are popularly known to be a nesting site for the Olive Ridley turtles, a process protected and preserved by the efforts and programs of the state.

Enclosures have been made and are monitored to understand and conserve the nesting patterns of the turtles. This pristine beach has often been termed as one of the cleanest beaches in India. The kilometer-long coastline, coated with a dense cover of vegetation and the varied topography, sees an interesting twist of the land near the southern end, where the Galgibag river joins the Arabian Sea. This twisted area, with the green hillock at the back and the blue Arabian Sea ahead, captures the heart of every passerby and onlooker, with the most unforgettable view. Galgibag Beach is also known as the Turtle Beach and is one of three other Goa beaches, alongside with Agonda beach and Morjim beach.

For travelers looking for the original charm of Old Goa, with its virgin, serene beaches, Galgibag would be a major contender for the top spot on the list of destinations. Walking along its serpentine coastline punctuated with boulders amidst the sheets of glimmering sands is probably the best way to spend the day by this seaside delight. In the southern part of the Galgibag Beach, some shacks with a little bit of modest menu of different dishes and drinks can be found. The prices here are not so high too. Galgibag Beach resort is a really amazing place for solitude and quiet, leisurely hanging out and comfortable.

What to Do in Galgibag Beach

Since Galgibag is one of the least frequented beaches in the South of Goa, there are no beach shacks here. One can enjoy a pleasant and peaceful stay, away from the crowds and the bustle of the rest of the state. This Galgibag beach is a pristine stretch of golden brown sand, fringed with coconut palms and other trees. The seas here are quite rough and not always safe to swim in, so caution is advised when venturing out for a dip.

The most famous aspect of Galgibag is the nesting ground of the Olive Ridley turtles which is a protected area at the northern end of the beach. The government of Goa is doing a sterling job of protecting the turtle’s habitat and nesting area.
